The 21-year-old Laoisman was delighted with his first goal.

Zach Tuohy scored his first AFL goal yesterday as Carlton overcame Brisbane Lions.

The defender finally got off the mark in the Blues’ 124-63 thrashing of the Lions at Etihad Stadium.

It is 18 months since he signed for Brett Ratten’s outfit. The 21-year-old Laoisman made his debut against Port Adelaide last weekend.

“I’ve been trying to get him to play me up forward for a long time so he might give me a go now,” Tuohy told ABC Radio.

“I wanted to run and jump and scream and shout and I thought ‘oh maybe not’.

“But the reception I got off the lads after I scored it was amazing and I’ll never forget that as long as I play.”

Tuohy said he in enjoying every minute of the switch from Gaelic to Australian Rules football.

“I love living out here, I love playing the game and I love the lads that I’m playing it with,” he said.

“So it was definitely worth the wait for me. I was always going keep going and keep going and keep going until I got here, I always believed that I could get here.

“Now that that moment has come it was definitely worth the wait.”

However, the Blues’ Irish recruit is missing home.

“Really the toughest thing for me is being away from home, being away from friends and family,” he said.
